Latvian Crowns

Author's Note:

Not being able to read or write Latvian, I am a bit at a disadvantage in this part of "Latvia – Our Countries Culture", since 90% of this information I have and found is written in Latvian, I can only add a small part to this. If anyone can help me contribute to this part of "Latvia – Our Countries Culture", it would be most appreciative.

Latvian Crowns

Like in many other cultures, Latvian traditional costumes signal the marital status of a woman. Unmarried women wear crowns, that is, vainags in Latvian. These single women’s head wear are crafted with great skill and include usually ornamental embellishments made of glass beads.

These are a few examples of the Crowns worn by unmarried Latvian women.
